Our vision at Small Town Speech & Language is to deliver quality, research based, speech and language services to our clients. We provide speech and language assessment and/or therapy to infants, toddlers, school-aged children and adults in East Contra Costa County. Therapy is conducted in the clinical setting or via a home based delivery model where the therapist will go into the home, preschools, daycare centers, parks, etc... to provide speech and language therapy to clients dependent on their individual need.  Speech and Language therapy is family centered, as this is vital to  clients' success.

Services 

Speech and Language assessment and/or therapy may be focused on any of the following:
Receptive and Expressive language: Vocabulary development, sentence structure, grammar, etc.

Social Skills: nonverbal and/or verbal language use, understanding/expressing emotions, perspective taking    
Augmentative and Alternative Communication:    also known as AAC, support would include client and family training on picture exchange communication, visual schedules, programming and training on use of high tech communication devices (i.e. iPad with a communication application), etc...
Articulation:    increasing speech intelligibility, phonological processing deficits, speech sound delay
Phonemic Awareness:    phoneme isolation, elision, blending words, rhyming, phoneme deletion, segmenting 
Auditory Processing: auditory cohesion, basic phonological skills, auditory memory, auditory attention
Stuttering: this impacts the fluency of speech and is characterized by- repetitions (I-I-I-I like you), sound prolongations (fffffffffollow your heart), and interjections (Take me uh-uh-uh-to the ball game).  Furthermore, it can be intensified by secondary characteristics such as "facial grimaces, blocks, eye twitches, etc."

Consultations available for free or at a reduced rate (contact us for details)
30 and 60 minute sessions available
Group sessions available, consisting of 2- to 4- clients maximum
Assessment and diagnosis of speech and language disorders (English and Spanish)
Family support/consultation for IEPs, IFSPs, speech therapy, reading deficits secondary to phonemic awareness, and more!


All fees are due at the time of service. Payment will be accepted in the form of cash, check, and credit card. 



Meet the Director

Heidi Tank, MA, CCC-SLP is a licensed, certified, bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist and has many years of experience in her field.  Her experience includes: diagnosis and treatment in Early Intervention (ages birth-3), preschool/school-age children, conducting independent educational evaluations (IEEs), school-based speech and language therapy including special education law, feeding/swallowing training, disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Dyslexia, and more, as well as in-patient rehabilitation for stroke, traumatic brain injury, cognitive therapy, and feeding support within an adult care facility. ​
